Airport intelligence / Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood

Fort Lauderdale's international boarding biometrics began with Spirit

The airport began Amadeus facial boarding at 14 Terminal 4 gates in 2020, according to the supplier. Scope and continued use warrant a current airport-side update.

The passenger-processing context

A biometric gate needs to match a departing passenger to the airline's flight and the authorised border identity process.

Amadeus described Spirit Airlines as an early participating carrier and linked the system to CBP's identity service.

The 2020 account does not demonstrate that all international airlines now use the same process.

The operational problem

Agents require safe and prompt resolution when a traveller cannot be matched automatically.

What the sources report

Amadeus described fourteen Terminal 4 gates equipped for international biometric boarding in November 2020.

Why it matters

This is a bounded implementation with named participants.

What remains unproven

There is no recent airport-confirmed coverage or independent evaluation of speed, consent and mismatch handling.

Editorial assessment

Fort Lauderdale's reported 2020 installation has a bounded launch scope. A current report should confirm the airlines and gates still using it.
