Abu Dhabi plans an AI airport management layer beyond its biometric gates
Abu Dhabi Airports and SITA signed a memorandum to develop an Intelligent Total Airport Management platform in November 2025. Separately, the airport is reported to have facial biometrics at five passenger touchpoints. These are different programmes with different maturity.

From identity at the gate to decisions in the operations room
The newer AI initiative is intended for the operations room. That is a different problem from biometric checks at a gate: an airport-management tool would have to coordinate multiple information streams and give staff a useful prediction or decision support.
SITA and the airport signed an iTAM development memorandum in November 2025. It did not announce a completed operational installation. There is no verified production date, specific AI model or measured airport result.
Biometric checks at five of nine passenger touchpoints were reported in July 2026. Those are a distinct identity programme. The gate count tells us nothing about iTAM's ability to coordinate an airport response.

The iTAM agreement
The operational problem
Airport operations teams need coherent information across systems before software can predict disruption or suggest resource changes.
What the sources report
SITA announced on 25 November 2025 an agreement with Abu Dhabi Airports to co-develop Intelligent Total Airport Management.
Why it matters
It offers a defined buyer and development partner for an airport operations use, but remains an announced development.
What remains unproven
No commissioning, specific predictive task, operator evaluation or measurable operational effect is confirmed.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.
The wider register
What else is happening at Abu Dhabi Zayed International?
The airport's reported biometric deployment is a separate identity-processing use. Its partial coverage does not validate the iTAM programme.
Face-recognition biometrics at five of nine touchpoints, Zayed International · Deployed · limited scope
Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi has face-recognition biometrics at five of the nine passenger touchpoints, according to an Airport Show release on 2 July 2026 and Biometric Update on 20 July 2026.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.
The first deployed use will define the story
The programme is potentially more significant than another passenger identity gate. The evidence must first show a working function used by Abu Dhabi's operational teams.
