Charles de Gaulle: what AI means inside a large airport group

Groupe ADP's chief executive describes AI in terminal modelling, passenger and baggage flows and maintenance. The public record confirms a broad programme, but not yet enough implementation-level detail to select multiple proven CDG deployments.

A broad claim with a narrow evidence trail

Groupe ADP operates several airports and has described AI use across their operations. Its chief executive cited terminal modelling, flow supervision, camera analysis and predictive maintenance in a July 2026 interview.

The difficulty is attribution. The statements concern the airport group and do not necessarily specify which capability is live at Charles de Gaulle rather than Orly or another ADP site.

Other CDG records cover baggage security screening and a vendor-announced lidar selection. Neither, on its own, demonstrates a current airport-wide AI operating capability. That makes this an assessment of the available evidence, rather than an invitation to invent a flagship project.

From the airport group's ambition to a CDG deployment

The operational problem

Airport-wide forecasts and visual monitoring could support staffing and asset decisions, but their relevance depends on confirmed location and operating scope.

What the sources report

Groupe ADP's chief executive told Les Echos Investir in July 2026 that AI was being used for terminal simulation, flows, camera images and predictive maintenance across the group's Paris airports.

Why it matters

An executive account from the operator is meaningful evidence that the group is using AI, but it is not a verified inventory of systems at CDG.

What remains unproven

Named products, terminal coverage, deployment dates and attributable results at CDG are mostly absent from the reviewed sources.

What else is happening at Paris Charles de Gaulle?

EDS Standard 3 hold-baggage screening is significant security technology but not shown to use AI in the cited CDG record. Outsight's Terminal 2E monitoring was selected according to a 2020 vendor announcement without later operating confirmation.

EDS Standard 3 hold-baggage screening at Paris-Charles de Gaulle · Deployed · limited scope

Charles de Gaulle received 80 EDS Standard 3 machines across 15 baggage systems, and Orly about 20 across six, in a EUR 500 million programme, according to an undated interview with Groupe ADP published by BEUMER. The new machines take 70 seconds per bag, against 18 seconds for the previous standard, the interview said.

Air Journal gave different figures on 18 March 2024: 102 machines installed, 83 at Charles de Gaulle and 19 at Orly, with the last due at Terminal 2A in July 2025.

Outsight 3D Smart Monitoring selected for Charles de Gaulle Terminal 2E · Reported · unverified

Groupe ADP chose Outsight's 3D Smart Monitoring for two areas of Terminal 2E at Charles de Gaulle, one of them baggage claim, Outsight announced in January 2020.

No later source confirms the system in use.

A feature can be valuable without pretending certainty

This page should tell readers exactly where the public evidence stops. ADP has described AI use; the current records do not support a detailed ranking of CDG-specific operational AI systems.

The next meaningful update is a named deployment with its terminal, operating status and measured effect, not another group-wide statement.
