Airport intelligence / Southampton

Southampton's AI airport assistant has two register entries for one service

Southampton introduced a QR-code-accessible Hello Lamp Post assistant in 2025. Its register also calls the service Hello SOU; those records require deduplication before being counted as separate implementations.

The picture at Southampton

The operating picture

A traveller standing near a particular point in the terminal has questions tied to that location.

The airport announced an AI-powered assistant in April 2025, reached through location-specific QR codes. The QR code is tied to the passenger's location. That makes a wrong answer about security or onward transport especially easy to detect—and potentially disruptive if relied upon.

The narrower location context is a plausible advantage, provided answers stay current.

The operational problem

Passengers should be able to ask about their next step without finding an information desk.

What the sources report

Southampton Airport confirmed the Hello Lamp Post launch in its media centre on 3 April 2025.

Why it matters

The exact access mechanism is documented and could be tested for answer quality.

What remains unproven

No independent resolution accuracy or operational benefit is established. The Hello SOU record may describe the same programme.

Editorial assessment

Southampton is an accessible example of location-aware passenger information. Before another feature is added, the Hello SOU and Hello Lamp Post records should be reconciled as a likely single service.
