Almaty's mobile identity experiment sits beside live border kiosks
Kazakhstan reported Q-Gate biometric processing at Almaty and other checkpoints. A separate eGov Mobile token pilot tests how identity is presented before a physical passport control.

The picture at Almaty
Identity and operational scope
A traveller may use an app token at one step yet still need a passport at another.
The aviation administration described Q-Gate operation in August 2026; the Civil Aviation Committee had confirmed the mobile-token trial in March 2025.
The 54-terminal figure covers eleven checkpoints and must not be presented as Almaty's own count.

The operational problem
Border authorities need clear identity eligibility and failure procedures when face or token checks do not work.
What the sources report
Kazakhstan's aviation administration describes biometric border terminals among which Almaty is listed.
Why it matters
The case allows comparison of established kiosks and a separate digital-token experiment.
What remains unproven
No local independent error rate or completed migration from pilot token to routine border use is established.
The complete airport register preserves separate schemes and dates. National programme totals are not automatically airport-specific outcomes.
eGov Mobile biometric token pilot at Almaty and Astana airports · Pilot
Kazakhstan's Civil Aviation Committee confirmed in March 2025 a pilot at Almaty and Astana airports in which passengers create a biometric token by loading a boarding pass in the eGov Mobile app.
The Astana Times reported in August 2026 a further pilot of border crossing with an eGov QR code instead of a physical passport.
Evidence supports a reported claim; it does not automatically establish a measured operating benefit.
Editorial assessment
Kazakhstan's national kiosk rollout provides a clear backdrop for Almaty. The mobile-token experiment still needs evidence of routine acceptance and workable alternatives.
