Geneva's queue figures are attractive; attribution remains the issue

Geneva airport uses queue measurement and a shared operations system, according to suppliers. Reported waiting-time improvements belong to a supplier case study and need context.

The available operating evidence

A security queue can respond to staffing and lane allocation as much as to sensing technology. A measured queue can still remain badly managed.

Veovo reported a reduction in average waiting time from seven to 3.5 minutes in a 2019 case study. SITA later described an integrated airport operations platform and bag-drop services. A reduction in waiting time could arise from more open lanes, altered passenger demand or better allocation of staff, so a measurement system needs a suitable comparison before taking credit for the entire improvement.

Neither account, by itself, proves a machine-learning model caused the reported improvement.

Geneva's queue figures are attractive; attribution remains the issue

The operational problem

Terminal teams need accurate queue measurements early enough to adjust checkpoint capacity.

What the sources report

Veovo's Geneva case study attributed a 51% security wait reduction to queue monitoring; SITA separately reported an operations-system upgrade.

Why it matters

The strongest link is between measurement and an actionable resource decision, not a headline percentage.

What remains unproven

There is no independently assessed counterfactual or demonstrated AI-specific forecasting function.

SITA Airport Operations System and self-service bag drop at Geneva Airport · Deployed · limited scope

Geneva Airport has introduced SITA's Airport Operations System, bringing its operations into one real-time platform, SITA said in October 2025, adding that self-service bag drop, first deployed at the end of 2023, raised passenger satisfaction by 70%.

Passenger Terminal Today said the upgrade continues a 20-year partnership with SITA.

Where the evidence points

A useful account would identify which queue-management rules changed after the sensing system went live.
