Hainan Airlines launches Sky Intelligence for its operations centre, with little detail on the AI
Hainan Airlines' chairman said in 2025 that the airline had launched Sky Intelligence, an operational control system combining intelligent alerts, information integration and shared decision making, as part of using big data, AI and connected devices across operations. The airline has not said which parts use AI.
Hainan Airlines says it uses big data, artificial intelligence and connected devices to optimise flight scheduling, improve operational efficiency, strengthen safety management and personalise services.
In 2024 it described an intelligent customer service robot powered by big data and AI among its service innovations; that record appears in the wider register.

The work behind the evidence

Sky Intelligence in the operations centre
The operational problem
Operations controllers have relied on experience and manual warnings to spot risks to flights, which depends on who is on shift.
What the evidence reports
Zhu Tao, chairman of Hainan Airlines and vice president of HNA Aviation Group, told IATA's Airlines magazine in September 2025 that the airline had launched the Sky Intelligence system, which integrates intelligent alerts, information integration and collaborative decision making. He said it marked a new level for operational control and intelligent data use, moving flight management from manual warnings based on experience to intelligent control based on scientific analysis.
Operational significance
If the system works as described, it moves risk warnings in the operations centre from individual judgement to shared alerts based on data.
Evidence still needed
The interview does not say which parts of Sky Intelligence use AI, which suppliers built it, or what it has changed. No figures have been published.

Editorial assessment
Hainan Airlines describes a broad digital and AI programme, but the published detail is thin.
A technical account of Sky Intelligence, and of where AI sits within it, would show how far the programme has gone.
