Airline intelligence / Air Transat

Air Transat writes destination guides with AI and checks every one before it goes live

Air Transat's app carries destination guides for 16 destinations generated with Azure OpenAI and reviewed by the airline before publication. Passengers never interact with the AI directly. The work, built by the agency Mirego, went live in February 2024.

Air Transat is a leisure airline based in Montreal. Its documented AI work is in the content it gives passengers about their destinations.

Its other technology records, Lufthansa Technik's AVIATAR maintenance tools and Avionica flight data transfer, appear in the wider register; their sources do not describe an AI function at Air Transat.

Destination guides written with AI

The operational problem

Writing and maintaining useful guides for every destination an airline serves is slow, and stale content is worse than none.

What the evidence reports

Mirego said on 8 February 2024 that Air Transat's app now offers destination previews covering expected weather, local food, main sights and practical information, available for 16 destinations including Paris, Lisbon, London, Orlando, Cancun, Punta Cana and San José. The content is generated with Azure OpenAI and then reviewed and approved by Air Transat through a content management system Mirego built so the airline can edit and enrich the text and images before publication.

Operational significance

The design uses generative AI to produce a first draft at scale and keeps the airline responsible for what passengers read.

Evidence still needed

The account is the agency's. Air Transat has not published usage figures or said whether the guides have been extended beyond 16 destinations.

Lufthansa Technik AVIATAR digital tech ops agreement with Air Transat · Contracted

Air Transat has signed an agreement with Lufthansa Technik and will implement the full AVIATAR digital tech ops ecosystem across its 43 Airbus A321 and A330 aircraft, Lufthansa Technik said on 3 July 2025. It will be the first North American airline on the full ecosystem.

Avionica miniQAR and avSYNC flight-data transfer at Air Transat · Deployed · limited scope

Avionica has brought its miniQAR recorders and LTE connectivity to Air Transat's mixed fleet of 31 A330 and A321 aircraft, which will use its avSYNC service to transfer flight data straight away, AviTrader reported on 2 June 2023.

Editorial assessment

Air Transat's documented AI is a modest and carefully controlled use of generative AI for content, with a person approving every guide.

Evidence of AI in its operations or customer service would broaden the picture.
