JetBlue described BlueSky, an operations digital twin it calls an AI and machine-learning operating system, as "now being phased in" in a Databricks blog post of 22 June 2023 by Sai Ravuru, JetBlue's Senior Manager of Data Science and Analytics. BlueSky draws on aircraft sensor data, weather, air traffic control and FAA feeds, and Ravuru wrote that aircraft generate terabytes of sensor data over the span of a day.
The same post said JetBlue had more than 10 machine-learning products in production on Databricks, including dynamic pricing, customer recommendations and analysis of customer sentiment. Staff use an internal library, BlueML, to train and deploy models, and a chatbot built on Azure OpenAI with role-based access to company data. Constellation Research named the chatbot BlueBot on 29 June 2023, and JetBlue reported a relatively high return-on-investment multiple within two years.
No source after 2023 confirms how far BlueSky has been rolled out. The return figure is JetBlue's own and was not quantified.
