AI passenger-flow monitoring in Milan Bergamo's new departures area
Deployed
Milan Bergamo's new departures areas, which SACBO opened on 25 November 2025, include an AI presence-detection system that monitors passenger flows in real time, according to the airport operator. SACBO did not name the system's supplier.
SACBO puts the investment at EUR 55 million, EUR 41 million for infrastructure and EUR 14 million for X-ray equipment, within a plan of about EUR 300 million since 2020. The work added 14 security lanes where liquids up to two litres are allowed, nine boarding-pass gates and 30 new self check-in stations, bringing the total to 64, SACBO says.
SACBO also reports a doubled baggage-handling area and an enlarged non-Schengen area with two new gates. It has not published figures on how the flow-monitoring system performs.
